What are the videos about? That's up to the filmmaker; however, each team must select the genre for its video in a random drawing 15 minutes before the start of the project. The Genres are: Comedy, Fantasy, Musical, Romance, Spy, Action/Adventure, Drama, Sports, and Superhero. In addition, all teams are given a character and a line of dialogue that must appear in each film. Also they must supply and use at least one prop from the list below. Character: Drake Props: Magazine, newspaper, umbrella, sunglasses, and/or small child's toy. Line of dialogue: “Your time is up” Tips: Remember you only have 2880 minutes, 2 days, or 48 hours to do this. Copy your teammates name, email, and phone number. Most of your shooting will take place at the BCIU. You may take the cameras home or bring your own to take different shots. Good Luck! |

The second BCIU sponsored digital video camp was held on July 26-28, 2005. The class was taught at the Berks County Intermediate Unit by Michael P. Farrara (Wyomissing Jr/Sr HS Technology Education Teacher) and Steve Simons (Reading/Muhlenberg Vo-Tech Commercial Art Teacher). The class provided Berks County students in grades 7, 8, and 9 with the opportunity to develop skills in basic video production using computer sotware for digital editing (Apple eMac computers and iLife 04). Students were tasked with creating videos based on the country wide popular, 48 Hour Film Project (48 Hour Student Film Project PDF) concept. Student video groups randomly chose a genre which consisted of: comedy, super-hero, mystery, horror, or romance. The students had to write, create music, produce, edit, and prepare the videos for viewing in 48 hours. They also had to have a specific line of dialogue, prop, and character which they did not know until they picked their film genre. Click here to watch the 2005 videos. The videos produced are suitable for playing via closed-circuit systems within the school district, for submission to the local competition of the Awards for Cablecasting Excellence (ACE), and for broadcast over the "School Casters" public access channel of the Comcast Cable System. Contact the BCIU (www.berksiu.org) for more information on upcoming student or adult classes. |
