Exploring Technology

Grade 7

Required Course
for all 7th graders

5 Periods/Week/Quarter

 

•••••Welcome to the Wyomissing Area Jr/Sr High School Technology Education Department. You will be introduced to three areas of technology: Communication, Production, and Transportation. Through hands-on activities and assignments, class discussions, work sheets, tests, and out of class work, you will learn about technology and how it affects you, your family, and your surroundings. You will create an invention podcast using the new Apple Mac Pro computers and learn how to use a scanner, digital camera, edit photos in Photoshop and more. You will work in the Wyo5Live TV studio and learn how to properly operate the video and audio equipment and make a short video. You will learn how to work with Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard and Apple's latest iLife 09 software and create your own music in GarageBand and more. You will design and build a cardboard race car and other exciting activities and assignments while you are a student in Exploring Technology.

•••••You will be working alone and working on a team, as you learn about technology. Your creativity and problem solving skills will be required throughout the entire class. For our class to be educational, exciting, interesting, and fun, you will have to be sure you are prepared for class and participate in discussions and activities. You will try your best and produce assignments (projects/design briefs) of superior quality and complete all assignments on time. You need to treat others with respect as well as the equipment in class. You will be required to abide by all of the schools rules and have your agenda book, class work, and ID with you at all times.

Grading for this course is as follows: Assignments, worksheets, homework, and tests, comprise the total class points (points are based on difficulty and length of time to complete the assignment) students can earn for a class grade. Students who are absent and need to make up work, can do so after school by making arrangements with Mr. Farrara (period 9, 2:15 to 3:00)
