Hallpass-Folders Set Up
  • Watch the 3 Photoshop hallpass tutorials. After submitting the hallpass, Mr. Farrara will print your hallpass, punch the hole, and add the holder. Tutorial 3 uses Photo Booth for the photo instead of a digital camera (Tutorial 2).
The student will follow the tutorial for setting up your required Multimedia folders.

Sahara FCP Tutorial
  • The student will edit the Sahara tutorial clips (720 x 480) from the "Sahara Intro" folder in a FCP sequence using the 34 second "intro narration" audio clip. Maximum video clip length is 3 seconds. You will probably use about 12 (12 x 3 seconds = 36 seconds) or more clips. You will add a 2 second slug in the beginning and a fade out at the end of the sequence. Render, then prepare to export.
Getting started. Watch the 4 tutorials • tutorial 1tutorial 2tutorial 3tutorial 4. You will then submit the following for a grade:
• 1. Full quality QuickTime file 2. 480p QuickTime file and 3. The Final Cut Pro Project file.
All three will be put in a labeled (LastName_Sahara) folder and placed in the Drop Box.

Highlight
Sports Videos
Q1 & Q2

• The student will record a falll, winter, and spring (MM1 2nd semester) sport. Shoot various wide, medium, and close up shots of players, crowd reaction shots, fans watching the game, score board, (this helps tell where you are in the game-beginning, halftime, last minutes) coaches, trainers, officials, the ball, etc. Remember the 180º rule to prevent crossing the line. Shoot from the same 180º side of the field/court, except for crowd shots. Watch last years best of Fall, Winter, and Spring sports, all shot by Multimedia students. It should take about 2-3 weeks to edit the video. You might need to attend after school open labs. If you record the sport at the end of the quarter, you'll need to edit two sports the next quarter. Rubric.

• You will submit the following for a grade: • 1. Full quality QuickTime file 2.
720p QuickTime file 3. 480p QuickTime file

Each student will work with Mr. Stoltzfus (Wyo AD) and Mrs. O'Regan to schedule a sport to shoot. The student will edit a fast paced one minute or more highlight video with student created GarageBand/Soundtrack/Digital Juice or real music. All music must be in the AIFF format. Watch this tutorial to convert mp3, wav or other audio to AIFF.
• Audio Levels Guidelines: In digital audio, no part of the overall audio should ever exceed 0 dB (decibels). Clipping and distortion will definitely occur. Set primary audio tracks - dialogue and narration - between -12 dB to -6 dB. Music volume might be set to -15 dB to -18 dB. You can occasionally go to -6 dB to -3 dB. Remember, NEVER, NEVER, 0 dB or above.

• These videos will be shown on Wyo5Live and may also be included in the annual senior video package
.
Your best video footage will be used to make the sports banquet highlight videos. These will be edited by MM2 and/or MM3 students.

Student Interview
Storyboard

This is a three student group project. After learning the camcorder basics, each student will interview a classmate, be interviewed by a classmate, and record an interview. The student will follow the premade storyboard with various professional style camera shots. An 8 shot storyboard will be used. The student has the choice of using the questions on the storyboard or creating their own (discretion should be used). Seniors in MM2 can ask senior related questions to do their interview. The student who videotapes the interview will be the director and edit the video they shot. Rubric.

••• To complete the project, the student will add a 2 second slug, a Motion or FCP title, a lower third title (Motion or FCP) for the guest and host, and add credit using scrolling text (FCP). Watch this Videomaker Titles and Graphics: Lower Thirds video.

••• Submit a full quality QuickTime file and a 480p QuickTime file. (Refer to the Sahara Tutorial #3 on how to do this). Save the Full quality QT in your QuickTime Projects folder and the 480p QT in your QuickTime Web folder. Submit both QT files in the Drop Box.

You don't have to (unless you're rock steady with the camera), but you should use a tripod or monopod for this assignment.
Watch the Roundtripping FCP-Motion tutorial or other text tutorials located the Multimedia Hand Out folder to help with text or lower third titles. You can also You Tube to find tutorials on titles and lower thirds.

Hollywood Movie Scene Recreation

• The students (MM2 period 6 & 8 may work together, as well as other classmates and friends) will select a 45 second to 3 minute (PG) scene/clip from their favorite movie and recreate all the scenes, shots, camera angles, dialogue, acting, props, sound effects, etc. Students can use parts of the real movie to enhance their recreation (Happy Gilmore, Bonnie & Clyde) which might otherwise not be able to be recreated. Each Multimedia student (period 6 & 8), must edit their own Storyboard and Wyo Hollywood Movie.
Wyo Ex. Mean Girls, Step Brothers, Not Another Teen Movie Split Screen, and Brady Bunch
. Watch more Wyo Hollywood movies...

SPARTAN
300

This is a unique video in that the student must make a video with a beginning, a middle and an end. Nothing out of the ordinary, except that it must only be 300 frames long (10 seconds), no more, no less. A minimum of 8 shots must be used. All cut edits and no speeding/slowing of clips. Creative shots are needed to make this work. Watch some of the past videos.

Photoshop
Animated Logo

Basic Cinematic Techniques
or
Basic Camera Shots

Six Shots

• The student, with a student partner/s, will record, edit, and submit the following shots:
Shot #1 - 2 pan shots, Shot #2 - 2 tilt shots, Shot #3 - 2 dolly shots, and Shot #4 - 2 zoom shots

To get great shots, the students MUST use a tripod. When all shooting is complete, the other student/s will do the same assignment using the supplied tape. The none shooting student/s should be in the shots.
The students will use the Canon HD cameras for #1-4.

Shot #5 - 2 pull focus shots,
• Shot #6 - Steadicam shot - Each student will use the GL1 (MiniDV tape) and our steadicam (Glidecam) and shoot a long steadicam shot (40 second minimum/60 second maxium). It should be creative, such as going up/down steps, going from one room to another, or following someone through an office. The students will use the Canon GL cameras, shooting at 16 x 9 (1:78 to 1) on MiniDV tapes (supplied by Mr. Farrara) for shots #5 & #6. These cameras allow easier white balance and manual focusing than the HD cameras.

Examples of Professional Steadicam Movie Shots: Bound For Glory, Rocky, Goodfellas, The Shining, and Atonement (R), Adidas, Outbreak.
The steadicam was invented in 1976 by Garrett Brown. Pictures of various steadicams.

• You will edit these in Final Cut Pro (File > Log and Capture) with creative titles, a dissolve transition (tutorial) (you may use any transition) between shots, and add a soundtrack created in GarageBand or use Digital Juice. A two second slug should be added at the beginning of each of the six set of shots. Show your creativity.

• This will be handed in as one QuickTime file - Basic Cinematic Techniques or Basic Camera Shots -

Digital Photo
Slide Show

The student will use 25 or more digital stills or scanned photos and create a still photo montage. The photos can be of family, friends, sports, hobbies, pets, cars, etc. The photos will be imported into Final Cut Pro and a personal slideshow will be created using your favorite song, GarageBand music, or a personal narrative original written story. This project can be used to introduce and reinforce the power of writing. Audio can be recorded using the microphone on your video camera and then separated from the video in Log and Capture or recorded directly to FCP. Keyframing and animating of the photos will be used heavily in this project.

Applications used: Final Cut Pro, GarageBand, iTunes, Image Capture, Photoshop, and QuickTime.
Watch these 2 informative tutorials to help you in creating your slide show. Slide Show Tutorial 1 - Tutorial 2

To get an idea on using stills in a FCP project from a business, go to www.seminars/apple.com and watch Creating a Rich Media Podcast with Final Cut Pro with Rich Storm, under the Photo section. Both free seminars give great info using still photography in a video editing program.

Animation
The students, using a digital still or video camera, will create a short animation video. The student can use clay, toys, or objects to produce the video. A copyright free music track or narration are required to complete the video. We'll edit at 10 frames/second.

Student Created DVD

Forced Perspective
Students will create a forced perspective video. Watch a sample video from another school.

4 MInutes
Between Class
Students can create a humorous video showing all the things (unrealistic, of course, but with the power of editing you can do the impossible) that can be done in the 4 minutes between the passing of class. A storyboard or script is needed before shooting can begin. Here are 2 sample videos to watch from 1997 and 2000.

SoundFX

Students create their own unique sound effects (minimum of 5) to use on their video projects, share with classmates, or others for their videos. These will be edited in FCP and exported as 5 AIFF audio files.

MasterCard
"Priceless"

One of my favorites. Students create, storyboard, video, and edit a 30 second commercial (plus/minus 3 frames) just like the real ones you've see on TV. Students will also create the MasterCard logo at the end of the commercial using Photoshop, FCP, Motion, After Effects, or other programs.
